NHHEAF Offers Free FAFSA Filing Assistance for NH’s College–Bound

Concord, NH — January 1 marked the availability of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2016–2017 academic year. The NHHEAF Network Organizations’ Center for College Planning (CCP) offers free financial aid advice and assistance submitting the FAFSA, which is used to determine student eligibility for federal grants, loans and work–study funds from the federal government.

This year, all students must use the new FSA ID, introduced in 2015, to electronically sign and submit their FAFSA. The FSA ID, consisting of a username and password, replaces the now former FAFSA PIN process. The student, and one parent, each need to have an FSA ID as part of FAFSA filing. For more information about the FSA ID, please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov.

“Each year, our counselors help thousands of New Hampshire families file this essential financial aid form,” stated College Outreach Counselor Moira Valenti. “Filing the FAFSA allows students to not only receive federal financial aid, but helps students to qualify for financial aid from their college or university. FAFSA data is also utilized by many private, or outside, scholarship providers to determine a student’s eligibility. It is important students meet the published deadlines for submitting the FAFSA in order to maximize the financial aid award.”

Free one–on–one FAFSA filing appointments at NHHEAF’s Concord offices are available Monday through Friday. To request a free appointment, call 888.7.GRADUATE x119. Pre–registration is required. Many NH high schools are also hosting FAFSA Filing days, For a calendar of scheduled events, visit http://nhheaf.mhsoftware.com.
